This full-day workshop by IP attorneys takes you through the journey from identifying innovation in your research to process of protecting and commercialising it. You’ll learn how to recognise the innovation in your work, understand your options, and navigate key steps such as patenting before publication.

Eligibility & requirements

The training is open to researchers, academics, innovators and entrepreneurs from NAPIC, Bezos Sustainable Protein Centre, CARMA, Microbial Food Hub, universities and research organisations across the UK.

No prior knowledge of patents or IP is required.

What you’ll learn

You will learn how to:

  • Identify innovation within your research.
  • Understand what to do once you identify an innovation.
  • Explore patenting and other viable routes for your research.
  • Understand the patent filing timeline and what a patent looks like.
  • Understand what you can potentially gain from protecting your innovation.
  • Make informed decisions about when and how to approach publication, and patenting.
